Before Rufus - Chaka Khan in 1970
Popular as the lead vocalists for the group Rufus in the '70s, Chaka Kahn, was known as the Queen of Funk. While with the group Rufus, she received four gold singles, four gold albums, and two platinum albums. Before joining the group, Rufus, in 1970, she had joined the group Baby Huey and the Babysitters to replace Baby Huey after he had passed away. The group only lasted a year after that before they split up. One of her popular hits while with Rufus was "I'm Every Woman."
