As we mentioned in the previous slide, accusations of sexual impropriety dogged Donald Trump for years prior to his presidency and continued through the first months of his term. However, not even those prepared him for the storm that was to come.
In early 2018, a story emerged claiming that weeks before the election, Trump had paid adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an affair the two had years earlier. Trump initially denied the payment but was forced to backtrack several times.
In August 2018, Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to eight criminal charges, including one related to the Daniels scandal, and stated under oath that he paid Daniels “in coordination with and at the direction of a candidate for federal office.”
