Infamous Us Presidential Controversies That Changed History
Thomas Jefferson
One of the most famous presidential sex scandals revolves around America’s third Commander in Chief — and author of the Declaration of Independence — Thomas Jefferson.
For nearly two centuries, rumors abounded that Jefferson, who’d never remarried after the death of his wife Martha in 1782, had carried on an “affair” with his slave, Sally Hemings, during his first term in office (1801-1804).
The rumors were seemingly confirmed in 1998 when DNA testing unequivocally linked two of Hemings’ descendants to Jefferson.
