It might be safe to say that Whoopi Goldberg's never really been a sex symbol. She's famous for her incredible acting and boisterous personality more than her looks. She's been nominated for 13 Emmys and won at least one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award.

Her role in The Color Purple about an abused black woman in the Deep South in 1985 brought her critical acclaim. But it was her role in 1990s Ghost that really firmed up her place in the public eye. She went on to star in many, many hit films and shows like Sister Act, Hollywood Squares, and The View.
